How the calculator works
This calculator estimates the economics of one US order in USD using Etsy Payments. It separates buyer sales tax, seller revenue, seller fees, and the cost of making and delivering the order. Rates were checked November 3, 2026.
The revenue base
Discounted item revenue = list price per item × quantity × (1 − discount percentage ÷ 100). Seller revenue = discounted item revenue + buyer-paid shipping + gift wrap. Buyer payment = seller revenue + the sales tax Etsy collects. Sales tax is not counted as your income.
Fees modeled
| Fee | US calculation |
|---|---|
| Listing allocation | $0.20 × units, unless you change it |
| Transaction | 6.5% × seller revenue, excluding buyer sales tax |
| Payment processing | 3% × buyer payment + $0.25 per order |
| Offsite Ads | Chosen 0%, 12%, or 15% × seller revenue; maximum $100 per order |
| Other seller fees | Your per-order amount, including any tax on seller fees |
Listing charges can occur before the sale. Multi-quantity listing renewals can also appear separately on your payment account. The default allocates $0.20 to each unit sold so an already-paid first listing does not disappear from product economics. It does not predict the exact timing of those charges. If several units represent one custom-priced listing rather than separate saleable items, adjust the listing allocation and costs to fit that structure.
Costs and profit
Materials and labor are per item, multiplied by quantity. Labor cost = minutes per item ÷ 60 × hourly rate × quantity. Packaging, postage, marketing, other business costs, and other seller fees are per order. Profit = seller revenue − modeled seller fees − business costs. Profit margin = profit ÷ seller revenue × 100. Revenue after fees is shown separately; it does not include reserves, prior balances, or deposit timing.
Price goals
The price tool searches whole-cent list prices while keeping quantity, discount percentage, shipping charged, sales tax amount, cost assumptions, and chosen ad rate fixed. Break-even seeks nonnegative profit; the target price seeks at least the chosen profit margin. A fixed sales-tax amount is a scenario assumption: if changing the price changes the tax collected, update that input and recalculate. Shipping thresholds, price-sensitive advertising results, and changing production costs are not modeled.
Rounding and limits
Revenue, each fee component, materials, and labor are rounded to cents. A statement may differ by a few cents depending on how Etsy groups transactions and rounds fees. A goal marked “Not reachable” cannot be reached within the modeled search range or assumptions. This is not a quote, tax return, payout reconciliation, or guarantee.
The tool does not automatically add income tax, state tax on seller fees, international VAT, currency conversion, country-specific regulatory fees, subscriptions, refunds, or inventory losses. Put relevant order allocations in the additional-cost fields or use another tool suited to your location.
